Hello Timberline friends and family!
Yet another wonderful week at Surprise Lake is in the books! Week 7 started with an overnight camping trip to two local sites – Outpost 1 and Hinterlands. Boulder Hill joined us and we had a great time until the event was cut short by rain. Tuesday was rainy which led to some good mudsliding, but thankfully we had perfect weather for our trip to Six Flags New England. It was a magnificent day filled with roller coasters, water rides, and overpriced food. Thursday’s highlight was another game of 4 Corner Treasure – a 4-way version of capture the flag that the campers greatly enjoy. Friday was Shomrei Adamah Day – a day that celebrates environmental awareness through hands-on activities. This year’s theme was paleontology and archaeology, and the campers practiced finding bones in the sand, putting together skeletons, and making footprints. Saturday concluded with SLC Sing. Our counselor, Joe, wrote another great song, this time about SLC icon, Whammy. The campers put in a lot of hard work to learn the lyrics and choreography and put on a great performance that we were all very proud of. The week concluded Sunday with an Amazing Afternoon Adventure at the ropes course, Waterfront and Sports specialty trips, and an awesome gym activity with Frontier, the oldest mainside boys group. It was a wonderfully exhausting week!
It is hard to believe that we are entering our final week of summer 2015. We’ve got a ton of activities planned to keep the campers busy. Tuesday night is the All-Camp Show, Wednesday is a Coffee House-style talent show, and Thursday is a teenside social that we call Club Surprise. We also have some unique, counselor-designed activities this week. Guy will teach some of the campers about “tricking” jumps, Zac will instruct them on “How to be a Gentleman,” and the entire unit will play Zac’s favorite game, Survivor!
Until next time,
