All the World’s a Stage!

“All the world’s a stage; And all the men and women merely players…” (As You Like It, William Shakespeare)

Apparently the same is true of SLC campers!  The entire camp is getting excited for tonght’s All Camp Show.  Curtain is in just over an hour and the entire camp is absolutely abuzz with anticipation.  The campers in Drama hobby, Drama specialty, Tech hobby, and Tech specialty have been working hard for the past three weeks, sometimes hours into the night.  Their dedication and commitment is unsurpassed, and we’re all looking forward to cheering them on as they present their diligent work to us tonight.

The Mainside show is Matilda, a musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved novel for children.  The main character, Matilda, is a young girl with a thirst for learning that is thwarted by her parents and evil principal of Ms. Trunchbull.  With the help, love, and support of her idealistic young teacher, Ms. Honey, Matilda discovers that she has incredible powers that come about through her own brilliant mind.

The Teenside show is Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods.  The musical brings us into a fantastical world where all of our best loved fairy tales collide in hilarious twists and turns.  Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack the Giant Slayer, and an evil Witch all bump into eachother as they enter the woods to get their wishes – to see, to sell, to get, to bring, to make, to lift, to go to the festival!  But will they get home safely?  Who can tell!

Of course, we are all also very excited about intermission when the entire camp gets chipwich ice cream sandwiches!  We also have the very special opportunity to recognize one of our staff members who has been in camp for ten years – Carolyn Samuels, the Mainside support supervisor.  She will be presented with her ten year staff jacket tonight.

It’s hard to believe first session is almost over, but we’ve still got plenty more in store, so stay tuned for further updates!
