Alumni Day and Trips Galore

Here at SLC, we like to say that a rainy day at camp is better than a sunny day anywhere else!  Nearly 300 of our alumni proved that theory right when they woke up to grey skies and braved some torrential rains just to make their way to Surprise Lake Camp’s annual Alumni Day.  It poured for the […]

Arrival Day Part Deux (2)

It is hard to believe that another 200 campers arrived yesterday!  Luckily, Mother Nature was on our side… while Wednesday was hot and humid, a quick moving storm took care of the heat and humidity, leaving Thursday to be picture perfect.  The sun was shining and there was a nice breeze… we couldn’t have asked for better […]

Session 1 Slideshow, Trip Break, and a New Beginning

The past few days have been a whirlwind.  Monday night we all gathered in the theater for our end-of-session slide show and the Pete Seeger tribute video, edited by our very talented Steve Video!  The weather was beautiful, the sky was clear, and sentimental tears fell down many cheeks.  The slide show captured many great moments […]

Camp Bucket Lists

Where has the time gone?  We celebrated the last Shabbat of 1st session on Saturday and had a beautiful All Camp Havdallah after SLC SING.  At SING, every unit performed an original song and dance- they were all so talented and the kids had a blast!  The girls of Highlands won, followed closely by the Sherwood boys. […]

As we near the end of Session 1, the topic for our Jewish Onegs was miracles and friendship. Many of the units reflected on the miracle of camp and how […]

We are Shomrei Adamah – Keepers of the Earth

Friday, July 11 was our annual Shomrei Adamah Day.  “Shomrei Adamah” means “Keepers (or Guardians) of the Earth” in Hebrew.  At camp, the kids call it Teva day.  “Teva” is Hebrew for nature.  It is a day filled with extra special fun Teva activities, where kids learn about the environment, its creatures, and its mysteries.  Our theme this year […]

Olympics 2014

What an exciting day at SLC!  Olympic activities began right after breakfast.  Campers participated in ballfield activities, waterfront activities, created plaques and banners in arts & crafts, practiced songs and cheers, and displayed wonderful sportsmanship… one of our STARFISH values! Lunch was unusually quiet… because it was worth points!  It is camp tradition to have […]
