Waiting on a sunny day…..

Many times I sit down to blog and then I turn on the ipod looking for inspiration, not this week!.  Today I have been singing  Springsteen’s “Waiting on a Sunny Day” all day.  Bon Jovi has had a plug here as have many others and today it the Boss’s turn. It reminds me of camp…yes, I know everything reminds me of camp.. Sing with me and then read.

It’s rainin’ but there ain’t a cloud in the sky
Musta been a tear from your eye
Everything’ll be okay
Funny thought I felt a sweet summer breeze
Musta been you sighin’ so deep
Don’t worry we’re gonna find a way

I’m waitin’, waitin’ on a sunny day
Gonna chase the clouds away
Waitin’ on a sunny day

Without you I’m workin’ with the rain fallin’ down
Half a party in a one dog town
I need you to chase the blues away
Without you I’m a drummer girl that can’t keep a beat
And ice cream truck on a deserted street
I hope that you’re coming to stay

I’m waitin’, waitin’ on a sunny day
Gonna chase the clouds away
Waitin’ on a sunny day

Hard times baby, well they come to tell us all
Sure as the tickin’ of the clock on the wall
Sure as the turnin’ of the night into day
Your smile girl, brings the mornin’ light to my eyes
Lifts away the blues when I rise
I hope that you’re coming to stay

This past Sunday, SLC was truly a “SUNNY DAY” and most of the folks will be coming to stay….at least for the summer.  Parent Camper Orientation was a huge success!  The weather was beautiful (some would say hot), the campers were excited, our staff was playing their “A” game…..we were all in the zone.  Happy smiling faces when the day was done which is the goal.  The important part was all the wonderful things that happened in between.

The cars began arriving for refreshments at 1oish and they were greeted by smiling faces and some snacks before the tours!  Kids who were nervous met others on the tour and by the time the tour was over….we had bunk requests!  While I had the parents up in the seminar the campers were out on the field playing with the staff.  Everyone left smiling.  It was really a terrific day.

I want to say thank you to my incredible staff who made everyone feel special, in the way that only SLC can.  A special thanks to all the support they gave to me at my first “BIG” event as Camp Director.  You are incredible and I can’t wait to work with you all this summer.
